Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo

Last Saturday we went to the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo, here in Austin. We’ve been planning to go since hubby hasn’t gone to a rodeo yet and we were lucky to get free tickets from a generous donor.

I was determined to get long exposure shots at the fair, so I brought my tripod. I thought I had time to get my tripod after the rodeo show but when it was done, I was too tired to walk back to the parking area after doing a twelve-hour shift. I did get my long-exposure shots but it had slight camera shake. Anyway, I still thought I had decent captures. The most important part is, we had fun watching the cowboys and then creating light trails of the fair rides.

  1. Awesome pics, Shey! You really captures the feel of that carnival. Love the distance night shot of it, and the Ferris wheel pics are totally psychedelic. Nice action pics of the rodeo too. 🙂

  2. It takes some determination to carry a tripod around and all that setting up etc. But it was well worth it by those pictures. The night shots are incredibly colourful and you captured the movement so well.

Nice long shots of the rodeo too.

  3. Really excellent images – completely captures the lights and ambiance of a rodeo – in my opinion – well, I’ve never been – closest thing has been to an agricultural/farm fair thing – but it just might be close enough for me to say ” your images make me feel like I was there amongst the sites and sounds and smells” 🙂

      • Maybe one day I’ll make it to the Calgary Stampede – I think that would be an interesting place to start on the Rodeo circuit – although something smaller might be easier to digest. Glad you had fun 🙂

  4. We used to go to rodeos ages ago, in the Pacific Northwest, so that brought back fun memories . But I was most enthralled with the carnival shots… Wonderful stuff, I don’t know how you do it! Mesmerizing.. Reminded me of a kaleidoscope sort of.

  5. Fabulous pics of the Rodeo… what a great subject… I have never photographed one.

Your Carousel shot is superb. The moving one is fun. One of my favorite places to take photos is at a carnival at night. The one of the pirate ship with the lights on the left is cool. Nice work.

  6. Oh wow those were FUN! – I would love to try that but am not sure I would know how to get a shot like that.
Rodeo’s are neat but I dislike the Calf Roping but love Bull Riding. Sounds like you all had a grand time.

Thanks for coming by today and for your kind words. I will visit you as soon as I can. Have a fantastic day and don't forget to smile. ~ Shey
