Brave Birds

IMG_1867s

Swainson’s Hawk and the first pair of Scissor-tailed Flycatchers I’ve seen this spring. Spotted at a power line and pole where E. William Cannon Drive and McKinney Falls Parkway intersects in Austin, TX.

These scissor-tailed flycatchers seemed brave when they decided to hang out with this hawk. The male flycatcher was even dive-bombing the hawk a few times before they flew away. The hawk didn’t mind the company at all, probably scoping out a more delectable meal.

  1. Of course it could be the other way around – rather than the hawk watching the others, the others could be watching it! Nice pictures.
